
Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering Admission
Applicants for admission into the Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering program must possess a bachelor’s degree or be in the final stage of completing the degree.
Application deadlines:
- For enrolling in Spring: October 25
- For enrolling in Fall: July 15
Each application must be accompanied by a $60 (U.S.) application fee ($95 for international / non-U.S. resident applicants). This may be paid with a credit card using the online application form.
Required application materials:
- Completed graduate application
- Current Curriculum Vitae (CV) or Resume
- Official transcripts from all colleges or universities attended
- Academic Statement of Purpose (ASOP) essay.
Leveling Courses:
Students without a BS in Mechanical Engineering background may need to complete leveling courses in mechanical engineering to prepare for the MS core courses. Students may also need to complete prerequisites for the leveling courses, based on their prior undergraduate coursework. The minimum required leveling courses for students from non-ME degrees are the following:
Any 3 out of the following 4 courses:
- ENGR 2160 - Materials Science and Engineering and
- ENGR 2165 - Materials Science and Engineering Laboratory Credits: (4)
or
- ME 3040 - Dynamic System Modeling Credits: (3)
- ME 3050 - Machine Design Credits: (3)
- ME 4000 - Heat Transfer Credits: (3)
Accelerated 4+1 BS/MS Admission
Students in the ¶¶Òô³Ô¹Ï Mechanical Engineering (BSME) program may apply to the accelerated bachelors to masters pathway if they:
- Have completed at least 90 undergraduate credit hours
- Have a minimum GPA of 3.0

Additional Admission Requirements for International Students
All international students and any applicant educated outside the U.S. must demonstrate proficiency in English. For applicants for whom English is not their first language, a minimum English language proficiency score is required. TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) = 75 overall, with a minimum of 17 in each category: OR IELTS (International English Language Testing System) 6.5 overall, with a minimum of 6.0 in each category). TOEFL or IELTS test must be taken within the past two years.
In addition to language proficiency requirement, international applicants must also submit:
- GRE Scores (except for applicants with an ABET-accredited engineering bachelor's degree or a prior STEM degree with a GPA of 3.3 or higher on a 4.0 scale)
- 2 letters of recommendation
- Transcripts that have been evaluated by a ¶¶Òô³Ô¹Ï approved foreign credentials evaluation service. .
A translated transcript is not accepted. Transcripts must be evaluated on a course-by-course format, showing U.S. semester credit and grade equivalent for each course based on a 4.0 GPA scale.
