Meet Workforce Needs & Provide Immersive Experiences

As changes in society and industry create new challenges, universities must adapt to prepare students to meet them. Weber State plans to build on its existing strengths and expertise in two key areas — aerospace/defense manufacturing and sustainability — to create cutting-edge “signature clusters” that will give students paid professional experience while they pursue their degrees.

The clusters also will create academic partnerships with industry and community organizations, allowing ¶¶Òô³Ô¹Ï faculty to help solve some of the toughest challenges facing industry and our community by researching, testing and implementing solutions.

¶¶Òô³Ô¹Ï plans to launch this immersive opportunity using two existing centers: the Miller Advanced Research and Solutions (MARS) Center and the Sustainability Practices and Research Center (SPARC). With these hubs already in place, as well as solid relationships with prospective industry and community partners, ¶¶Òô³Ô¹Ï will expand its role as a leader in educational innovation.

Why This Initiative Matters

Leslie Durham, ¶¶Òô³Ô¹Ï interim president
“By launching these signature clusters in key areas like aerospace/defense and sustainability, we are merging academic rigor with the paid, real-world experience that can be a dramatic differentiator for students as they launch their careers. Our strategic alignment with industry allows us to solve critical community challenges while ensuring that our graduates are not just credentialed but highly skilled and fully prepared to immediately drive innovation in the workforce.”
